Huawei had released their flagship smartphone, the Huawei Mate 8 in Malaysia this back in March at the retail price from RM 2,099 to RM 2,399 (including GST). Huawei Mate 8 is powered by Kirin 950 processor, 3GB/4GB RAM and also 32GB/64GB ROM. The rear camera equipped is a 16MP Sony IMX298 sensor. The Huawei Mate 8 aims at creating a new style for business.

No more nonsense and let's dive into how impressive the new astonishing look and stylish Huawei Mate 8 gives!

the [A]ppearance
After waiting for more than a year, Huawei finally launched Mate 8. The Huawei Mate 8 remains at the size of 6 inches but is known to be the successor on top of the Ascend Mate 7. While comparing both devices side by side, looking from the front, I assume most of you will get confused between the Mate 7 and Mate 8. The front camera and sensor of Huawei Mate 8's has been moved from the left to the right. Other than that, the percentage of the screen-to-body ratio increases slightly from 77.6% to 78% whereas both remain borderless. Moving to the back view, a big difference can be easily realized. First of all, you might have already found that the shapes of the camera lens and fingerprint sensor has been changed from rounded square to circular form. Huawei is truly putting in effort this time, re-designing the fingerprint sensor to provide users easier and faster unlocked experience. It is impressive when you can always have your phone unlocked before you placed it before your eyes. Additionally, the flashlight is upgraded to dual tone type to produce more vivid and solid image. Furthermore, the speaker has been migrated from the back (on Ascend Mate 7) to the current position, neighboring the mini-USB port. This would surely produce better sound effect and greater volume no matter how or where you place your phone. Last but not least, the antenna line for NFC above the rear camera lens (refer to Ascend Mate 7 backview) which looks a bit like a crack seeing from far was omitted on the Mate 8, creating a simpler but more classy look.

I just couldn't describe how nice the feeling is of owning a 6 inches screen for gaming!

the [B]rain
The brain of Huawei Mate 8 is powered by their latest Kirin 950 processor together with 3GB or 4GB RAM depending on the specifications you prefer. Kirin 950 is their brand new processor with the ability to provide fast and long-lasting performance without any stutter. With the joining of the 4000mAh capacity non-removable battery, enhancing the great and long-lasting performance on the Mate 8. Surprisingly, Mate 8 is able to survive up to 2 days or more with moderate usage. Somehow, no worries even if you are a heavy user or having 2 SIMS running at the same time, the Mate 8 can still lasts up to a day. No more hassles bringing any adapter, cable or a heavy power-bank along! How nice to hear that for a businessman who needs to travel a lot, no matter on the road, in the air or on the sea. As per mentioned above, with Huawei Mate 8, you no longer need a powerbank for outing, moreover, it can actually act as a powerbank to jump start or share some "lives" with your other device. What if you are packed with meetings and appointments? The best solution Huawei has provided us: just feed the Huawei Mate 8 with 30 minutes of charging, that may last the device for one whole day.

the [C]amera
Huawei uses Sony latest 16 MP f2.0 camera sensor on Mate 8 which produces better images. Photo shooting becomes a simple task with Huawei Mate 8 auto mode that what you need to do is to flip out your device, launch the camera application and "ta-dah!" you will then get a lots of great images. The result do meet my standard even I work as a professional photographer and mainly shooting for lots of weddings and events. However, in my opinion, Huawei Mate 8 can be improved by enhancing their autofocus technology, that would then avoid easy blurred-out photo that caused by movement. Not to forget to give a big round of applause to Huawei who added professional mode to their camera that makes photo snapping more fun on Huawei Mate 8. Anyhow, thanks to the built-in optical image stabilization as well, that allows me to take some nice photos during night time. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the performance obtained from the Mate 8's camera besides food photography. It is sad to say food images taken with Mate 8 is not that attractive, lacking of saturation and details. Future improvements can still be done by Huawei to fulfil the needs and to serve the user with better yet convenient functions.

the [D]enouement
In short, Huawei Mate 8 does attract me with the premium and glory feel it has been giving me, more than what I have expected from the very young brand, Huawei. As Huawei slimming down the bezel on both side, users will obtain a larger screen experience. With the improvise fingerprint sensor from design to performance, keeping the device on all the time and taking only 0.2 seconds to unlock the screen, considering pretty fast as compared to other android smartphones. This really leads Huawei Mate 8 to score higher in the range, pushing Huawei brand to a higher end in the smartphone market as well. Battery life is always another vital aspects to user on smartphone purchasing. I am truly impressed by the battery life of Huawei Mate 8 and has been leaving my powerbanks at home when I am out for events or any important meet-ups. I guess they have already collected some dusts on them! Furthermore, the EMUI 4.0 has updated from the previous version with few features added in (refer to photos below), like name card scanning, knuckle gesture to screenshot (even for longer pages), documents readjustment, different recording mode (where you can choose either you are in a meeting, interview or daily use) as well as ultimate in-car experience. Name card scanning is a very useful feature to businessman where they can save the contact info via name card they received in a faster way. I will say Huawei Mate 8 is the smartphone that comes with good hardware, great performance, special features and definitely worth-for-money. I will stick to Huawei Mate 8 for a longer period!
